Arsenal’s brief but promising run of form in mid-November dried up quick. The Gunners beat rivals Tottenham 2-0, Burnley 1-0 away from home and Huddersfield by five, but haven’t won in the Premier League since. With matches against Southampton and West Ham in the past two weeks, they have had opportunities to do so. Arsenal now sit a staggering 19 points behind leaders Manchester City and dropped to seventh place in the table behind Burnley. Although the Arsene Wenger’s squad are only a point off of the top four, the season is already a disappointment.
They do get to face Newcastle at home now, and should be able to pick up three points with ease. The Magpies are in the worst run of form out of any Premier League team, not having won in their last eight matches, including seven losses. The team is in turmoil lately, and the situation between owner Mike Ashley selling or not selling the club is leaving Rafa Benitez in a tough spot. With January coming soon, things could get worse for Newcastle. Ashley won’t spend money if he wants to sell, and the team needs multiple signings to stay up.
