With a perfect season on the line, the MEAC champion, 11-0 North Carolina A&T Aggies face off against longtime rivals and SWAC champion Grambling State (11-1) in the 2017 Celebration Bowl. While this is only the third annual Celebration Bowl, there have been 125 years of football between these two teams and that’s why this matchup has everyone talking.
The Aggies own the Celebration Bowl title from its inaugural game while Grambling won the title in the game’s second year. Now, with both of the champions coming together for the third annual game the bragging rights are on the line and everyone will be watching to see whether the Aggies stay perfect or whether Grambling come away with the title.
This has been a banner year for the Aggies, who haven’t seen the top of the MEAC in 14 years. They also stand on the shoulders of history with the fact that no team in the MEAC has ever had a perfect season, and they have 12 players who were named to the first-team All-MEAC. The 2017 Aggies are ready to fight for a chance to make history with a victory in the 2017 Celebration Bowl.
Grambling could have been perfect this season but the loss at Tulane took that away. Nevertheless, the Tigers come into the bowl game with the most sacks in the FCS with 45 and the second most tackles for a loss with 97. Like the Aggies, Grambling knows that this win is the most important one of the season and they’re ready to fight for it.
