Louisiana Tech vs. SMU(-4.5) at Frisco, TX(5):

Louisiana Tech 6-6, 4-4(t6th CUSA):

Wins: vs. Northwestern State(52-24), at Western Kentucky(23-22), vs. South Alabama(34-16), at Rice(42-28), at UTEP(42-21), vs. UTSA(20-6)

Losses: vs. Mississippi State(21-57), at South Carolina(16-17), at UAB(22-23), vs. Southern Mississippi(27-34), vs. North Texas(23-24), vs. Florida Atlantic(23-48)

Record vs. bowl teams: 1-6

J’Mar Smith makes this offense go. It is not as prolific as the last few years, but the Bulldogs lost almost all of the skill players from last season. This is a bit of a different team. Gone are the days of shootouts in the 50’s. The Bulldogs want to keep it an ugly, physical game in the 20’s. Good luck with that against SMU.

SMU 7-5, 4-4(t5th AAC):

Wins: vs. Stephen F. Austin(58-14), vs. North Texas(54-32), vs. Arkansas State(44-21), vs. Connecticut(49-28), at Cincinnati(31-28), vs. Tulsa(38-34), vs. Tulane(41-38)

Losses: at(20)TCU(36-56), at Houston(22-35), vs. (18)Central Florida(24-31), at Navy(40-43), at Memphis(45-66)

Record vs. bowl teams: 2-5

The problem all season for SMU has been defense. The Mustangs allowed more than 30 points in their last five games! Most of the time, Ben Hicks was able to keep up with the points that the defense allowed. Xavier Jones is an underrated back that often gets lost in the shuffle in this high powered offense, but he can grind it out if he needs to.

Prediction:

Tnis was a great draw for SMU. Not only do they get a team that can’t really keep up with them, this is also a matchup that is pretty close to a home game for them. The deck is stacked against Louisiana Tech here, and I don’t think they had much of a chance to keep it close anyway. I had this pretty high in my bowl pick em, and I’m keeping it there. Ponies by double digits.

Pick: SMU
