Mark Cuban has no interest in buying Panthers

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has no interest in buying the Carolina Panthers, believing the NFL is already in decline.

The NBA is a thriving league under commissioner Adam Silver. While some will complain about the lack of parity, the NBA is certainly in the best spot it has been in since the heyday of Michael Jordan. In that regard, Mark Cuban’s decision to buy the Dallas Mavericks back in 2000 for $285 million appears to be an incredible steal.

However, when asked about his interest level in buying the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, Cuban struck a different chord. The Pittsburgh native believes that the NFL is on the way down, making it a lousy investment with some believing the Panthers will sell in the neighborhood of $2.5 billion. In other words, Cuban is out on the Carolina franchise, which will almost certainly inspire a bidding war.

The Panthers have already gotten some interest from high-profile figures including Sean “Diddy” Combs, Colin Kaepernick and Steph Curry, who would all be part of the same group.

Cuban’s opinion on the NFL’s situation isn’t a crazy one. The league has been getting bad publicity for years now due to CTE, the concussion protocol, inconsistencies from the commissioner’s office and anthem protests. All told, the NFL is struggling to simply maintain ratings year over year, although it must be noted that those numbers are staggeringly better than any other North American sports league, including the NBA.

At 59 years old, Cuban is likely content to enjoy the Mavericks instead of trying to become an owner of two teams in two sports, a la Stan Kroenke.
