Aaron Rodgers got outplayed by Cam Newton, so that’s why we didn’t win last week. Here’s to doing better. Here are my five best bets for Week 16 in the NFL.

Well, Week 15 sure was interesting. We still have no idea what a catch is and we all know that Gene Steratore pays with a card over cash every time he goes out for a nice seafood dinner. Sadly, it was not a winning week for my best bets. You’re darn right I’m going to complain about it.

While Eli Manning and Alex Smith came through for me, Aaron Rodgers, Blaine Gabbert and Mitchell Trubisky did not. Manning kept his dead New York Giants in striking distance of the Nick Foles led Philadelphia Eagles, covering the 7.5-point spread. Good job, Eli! Smith took those two points Las Vegas was giving his Kansas City Chiefs and beat the snot out of Philip Rivers’ Los Angeles Chargers. Efficiency!

Though those two games were cool, the other three definitely were not. Sure, Trubisky threw for a bunch of yards against the Detroit Lions, but those three picks weren’t enough to cover the 5.5-point spread. Chicago lost by 10. Gabbert couldn’t get me one more point. Though

Kirk Cousins did work for my fantasy team, I lost that game by half a point. The Washington Redskins beat the flip phone Arizona Cardinals by five points when they were laying 4.5.

To be fair, I can’t get overly mad about Gabbert and Trubisky massively disappointing. It’s what they do. But you, Rodgers. You done messed up A-a-ron! A 50 percent passer in Cam Newton took your bad Packers team to the woodshed and beat you by a touchdown. Three picks in Charlotte was enough to set you up to be eliminated from playoff contention by the Atlanta Falcons one night later.

It’s the end of the season, and I just want to finish the year above .500. Bad quarterback play has been the death of us this year. To be fair, I don’t love the lines this week, but y’all want five, so you’re getting five. Here are my five best bets of the week. Lines are by OddsShark.

San Francisco 49ers (+4.5) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

We’ve got the hottest defense in football going against the most handsome quarterback Planet Earth has ever known on the road in this one. It’s math, Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t lose starts. And he’s getting 4.5 points at home versus Sir Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gimme them points!

The San Francisco 49ers are a completely different team since Jimmy G has been under center. They are like actually winning consecutive games now. Who cares about Sam Darnold or college dudes named Josh? It’s about Jimmy G for the next decade. He has been magnificent and all the gold can stay with kicking sensation Robbie Gould.

Could Jacksonville still win this game? Absolutely. The Jaguars just beat the tar out of the hopeless Houston Texans. Sacksonville could have a time share in the Bay Area, as we may not have a good offensive line out in Santa Clara. However, you know that Duval County got so fired up about making the AFC playoffs. They could overlook the 49ers in this game with a huge rivalry game versus the Tennessee Titans in Nashville in two weeks.

This could be yes, an amazing quarterbacking competition between Bortles and Garoppolo. Who would have said that even a month ago? Both are playing well down the stretch. The Jaguars are the better team, but they are poised for a letdown in this game. Take the 49ers getting at least a field goal in this one.
