Coaching a college football team is not unlike making a gingerbread house.

Snow is falling around the country — yes, even in the South — and that can only mean one thing: The holiday season is upon us. In the midst of December, we have Christmas coming up, New Year’s Eve right around the corner and of course, college football winding down. The holiday season is one for family, food and football. Starting with Thanksgiving in November and ending in early February, that’s what the season is about, the three F’s.

However, another ‘F’ is a part of the holiday season as well: fun. Among the holiday festivities is the fun of building a gingerbread house. Gingerbread houses are a holiday staple associated with Christmas, candy and sometimes children. But you’re never too old to get in the Christmas spirit. Never built a gingerbread house and need someone to help with building one? Why not combine the building of a gingerbread house and the single greatest factor of football during the holidays: college football coaches.

Whether he is your favorite, a fan favorite or a stand-up, hysterical guy, college football coaches come in all shapes, sizes and personalities. If one thing’s certain, it’s that college football employs some of the funniest, whackiest sports personalities in the world. So who would you want coaching you up to build a gingerbread house? Here are 30 coaches who would be good candidates for the job.

30. Clay Helton

For those who’ve never made a gingerbread house in their life, Clay Helton is one of the few coaches who would be the perfect coach to help with the job. The USC head man has done a fantastic job steering the ship in Southern California. However, his persona on and off the field is just as — if not more — impressive than his on-the-field results. Which is really saying something considering he turned a 1-3 team to a 10-3 team in 2016.

Helton is often thought of as one of the calmest coaches in the game of football. He’s even had an article published about how calm he is on the field and away from it. Helton is incredibly loyal as well. He trusts his players, staff and those around him to get the job done and when they don’t? No big deal. Helton’s trusts them to fix the mistakes and remains calm through even the toughest of times.

For those reasons, he’d be the perfect candidate to coach a beginner in making a gingerbread house. Creating gingerbread houses is not easy. To be honest, it’s far from it. At times, it can be frustrating, annoying and make you want to quit. Having Helton at your side you could prevent that. His words of encouragement and calm tone would make crafting a gingerbread house pure fun — even more so because being yelled at by anyone, much less a coach, is never fun. Plus, it’d always be nice to have someone who trusts and believes in you alongside you.
