Is Empire new tonight, December 20? As we reach that time where Christmas is just around the corner, fans of FOX‘s musical soap opera might be wondering if there’s a new episode Wednesday or if they’ll have to wait to find out what happens next.
The bad news is that there is not a new episode on tonight. Last week’s episode, entitled “Slave to Memory,” was the Empire season 4 fall finale. It left Andre Lyon (Trai Byers) hospitalized after his father Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) started the season recovering from a near-death moment of his own.
But we don’t know when TV fans will find out if Andre is able to recover, since FOX has not yet announced when Empire season 4 will resume. We do know that it won’t be until sometime in the spring of 2018, with nine episodes left in the 18-episode order.
However, if you still need a Lyon family fix and don’t mind an episode you’ve already seen before, you don’t have to ask is Empire on tonight. The network is keeping the show on the air through the holiday break, giving us a rerun of this season’s second episode, “Full Circle.”
“Full Circle” introduced the recurring character of Eddie Barker (played by Forest Whitaker), who came to play a big role in the season. It also featured Lucious trying to figure out his past after the explosion that traumatized him. So if you want to watch Empire, you still have that ability on Dec. 20; it just won’t be a new episode.
