Jeff Fisher wants to return as NFL head coach in 2018
After taking this year off, voluntarily or otherwise, Jeff Fisher is getting it out there he wants to be an NFL head coach again in 2018.
Free from the shackles of Jeff Fisher this year, the Los Angeles Rams are 10-4 and in line to win the NFC West. 2016 No. 1 pick Jared Goff looks like an NFL quarterback, and running back Todd Gurley has put himself into the league MVP conversation. All they needed was a coach with an offensive mind.
Before being fired with three games to go last season, Fisher’s Rams had seven wins or less in all four of his full seasons as head coach. Add in the end of his time with the Tennessee Titans, and Fisher’s teams have posted a winning record just twice in his last 12 seasons as a head coach (counting 2016). Not surprisingly, his 165 regular season losses as an NFL head coach is tied for the most ever.
But with the end of the 2017 regular season approaching, Fisher is getting his name out there for potential job openings around the league.

This isn’t the first time Fisher has surfaced as a potential candidate for the Chicago Bears, since played and coached there in the 80’s. But teams tend to go with the opposite of what they had, and John Fox is also a retread with an old-school tilt.
The Indianapolis Colts are sure to fire Chuck Pagano once the season is over, and the Cleveland Browns may indeed fire Hue Jackson. But both of those franchises can and should look at practically any other candidate but Fisher, who has name recognition and connections around the league but nothing else of substance.

As could be expected, the three aforementioned teams Fisher is “eyeing” for a head coaching opportunity are low-hanging fruit and have been poorly run organizations to some degree. Only the most naive or short-sighted owners and general managers will even consider giving Fisher a head coaching interview come January.
