The Texas Longhorns are still looking to get back to being a powerhouse under Tom Herman, so let’s take a look at their early signing day class.
When the Texas Longhorns were able to lure Tom Herman to be their new head coach, the hope was once again that he’d be the one to turn things around. With that said, things don’t happen overnight in college football. As such, the 2017 season wasn’t what Longhorns fans had certainly hoped it would be overall in the first year with Herman at the helm.
Having said that, the reason that things don’t happen overnight is because you have to allow coaches to partake in the most crucial aspect of the job: recruiting. Recruiting well is a skill and art form that allows the best programs in the country to be just that. Yes, you have to develop the players and scheme properly as well, but if you don’t have the talent, you’re hurting from the jump.
With the pedigree of the Texas program behind him, there was immediate hope that Herman would be able to turn the Longhorns into a recruiting monster once again. And sure enough, that looks to be the case. On early signing day, they are currently one of the top-five classes in the country.

Getting B.J. Foster as a 5-star recruit is obviously a big get for the Longhorns. However, where this class really shines is how they’ve been able to load up on 4-star players, and high-tier ones at that. With 15 in this class, that’s huge already for Herman moving forward, clearly showing the upward trajectory of the program under his direction. If this keeps up, the hopes of the Texas faithful will no longer go unmet moving forward.
