Texas Tech vs. South Florida(-2.5) at Birmingham, AL(2):
Texas Tech 6-6, 3-6(8th Big 12(10):
Wins: vs. Eastern Washington(56-10), vs. Arizona State(52-45), at Houston(27-24), at Kansas(65-19), vs. Baylor(38-24), at Texas(27-23)
Losses: vs. (15)Oklahoma State(34-41), at West Virginia(35-46), vs. Iowa State(13-31), at (10)Oklahoma(27-49), vs. Kansas State(35-42), vs. (12)TCU(3-27)
Record vs. bowl teams: 3-6
A couple of things went as usual for Texas Tech this year. The offense was very good, the defense struggled in conference play. They boasted big wins over Arizona State and Houston out of conference. Heading into the conference season, Texas Tech looked like they had a chance to play spoiler. The only team that the beat in front of them in the Big 12(10) standing was Texas in the final game to become bowl eligible. Can the Red Raiders keep up their strong out of conference play in bowl season?
South Florida 9-2, 6-2(3rd AAC):
Wins: at San Jose State(42-22), vs. Stony Brook(31-17), vs. Illinois(47-23), vs. Temple(43-7), at East Carolina(61-31), vs. Cincinnati(33-3), at Tulane(34-28), at Connecticut(37-20), vs. Tulsa(27-20)
Losses: vs. Houston(24-28), at (15)Central Florida(42-49)
Record vs. bowl teams: 1-2
QB Quinton Flowers is an elite playmaker, but this defense had some issues. It doesn’t take that long to find a problem with South Florida. Flowers was also the leading rusher, so if a team can find a way to stop him, they can win the game. That has been the issue. The only team that came close to shutting Flowers down was Houston.
Prediction:
Texas Tech is easily the more tested team, but South Florida got a pretty good draw. This is the bowl game that could break a scoreboard. The over/under is at 66.5, and honestly, that’s a better bet to take the over than betting the spread. Both offenses are going to put on a show. South Florida drew a team that can’t really stop them, so expect Quinton Flowers to put on one more great show for Bulls fans!
Pick: South Florida
