We are now to the part of college football bowl season where we have one bowl a day until Friday. Then we begin the part of multiple college football games every day. If you are a college football fan, there isn’t much better than this! Next up is the Birmingham Bowl!

Army had 19 completed passes for 355 yards….all season! That’s not to say Army is a pushover. Army ran for 4,270 yards this season in their high powered option attack. They are a load for anyone to handle, even teams that normally face an option. San Diego State hasn’t faced one all season. The Knights won the Commander-In-Chief trophy for the first time since 1996.

San Diego State 10-2, 6-2(3rd MWC):

Wins: vs. UC Davis(38-17), at Arizona State(30-20), vs. (19)Stanford(20-17), at Air Force(28-24), vs. Northern Illinois(34-28), at UNLV(41-10), at Hawaii(28-7), at San Jose State(52-7), vs. Nevada(42-23), vs. New Mexico(35-10)

Losses: vs. Boise State(14-31), vs. Fresno State(3-27)

Record vs. bowl teams: 3-2

The Aztecs turned some heads early on when they took down two Pac-12 bowl bound teams, including a ranked Stanford. they lost two games in a row on their home field in October to the two teams that met in the Mountain West Championship game. We saw Boise destroy Boise in a bowl already, so these were good teams.

Prediction:

It’s poetic justice that the best rushing team in the nation is tasked with stopping the nation’s best rusher. Rashaad Penny led the NCAA with 2027 rushing yards, but you never heard anything about him because he is a running back. Running backs have gone from the kings of the gridiron to forgotten men, throwaways even, in both the college and pro game. This should be the shortest bowl game in terms of time with both teams running the ball so much. For that reason, I feel this line is too high. If the Aztecs manage to win, it wont be by more than four points.
