As the Premier League season reaches its halfway point this weekend, Brighton and Watford are in the middle of the table. The Seagulls are 13th, with 18 points in their first 18 games. The Hornets are 10th, with 22 points but have struggled lately.
Brighton were held to a scoreless draw against Burnley in their last game. The draw ended the Seagulls’ three-game losing streak. However, over their past six games, Chris Hughton’s side have picked up only two points. Brighton have struggled offensively this season, scoring only 14 goals, the third fewest in the Premier League. Glenn Murray and Pascal Groß have combined for eight of Brighton’s 14 goals. However, the duo have combined for only two goals over the Seagulls past seven games. Defensively, Brighton have been better than expected, allowing only 23 goals, the eighth fewest this season.
Watford lost their last game 4-1 against Huddersfield. Troy Deeney was sent off in the 33rd minute with a straight red card and suspended four games. The loss was Watford’s third straight and fourth in their last five games. The Hornets have lost seven of their previous 10 games and could fall out of the top half of the table with another loss. Abdoulaye Doucouré scored the lone goal against Huddersfield, giving him a team-high six goals this season. With Deeney suspended, manager Marco Silva will likely insert Andre Gray into the starting XI. Watford have scored the seventh most goals this season but have struggled to defend. The Hornets have allowed 33 goals; only Stoke have allowed more through 18 games.
