San Diego State faces off against Army in the 2017 Armed Forces Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 23. Watch the Las Vegas Bowl on TV and online.
The Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl brings together two teams who are in the hunt for a postseason bowl game win to continue their current streaks. Army is making back to back bowl appearances while San Diego State marks its eighth straight bowl appearance. The Aztecs (10-2) and Army (9-3) are well matched, but look for San Diego State to walk away with a win in the Armed Forces Bowl.
San Diego State had an impressive start to the season that saw a major win against Stanford. The Aztecs lost some steam through the season, which cost them a shot at a better bowl game thanks to that Stanford win, but the Aztecs are used to this song and dance, looking to make the most of their postseason appearance to come away with a win. San Diego State is still frustrated that running back Rashaad Penny was snubbed by the Heisman Trophy committee after claiming every record out there for the 2017 season, so look for the Aztecs to come out strong against Army to prove a point.
Army is widely known for its ground game, averaging 31 points per game. The key to success in this matchup is for Army to stay on top of the Aztecs, who will have no trouble blocking Army’s ground game. Quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw is averaging 7.5 yards per carry, so if the Black Knights can find an opening, they know how to move the ball.
