Is Walmart open on Christmas?
Christmas Day has arrived and for those shoppers looking to make a trip to Walmart, you need to know whether Walmart is open or not. We have the details.
Walmart is one of the few one-stop shopping locations out there, making it a critical destination for holiday gifts, last minute household items and groceries or even for emergency purchases. However, it’s important to note that all Walmart locations will be closed on Christmas Day.
Walmart shuts its doors on Christmas Day as a way of thanking its employees for all of their hard work all year, in addition to the hours they put in on Thanksgiving Day ahead of the Black Friday rush. Stores will close early (usually at 6pm) on Christmas Eve and they won’t reopen until the start of normal business hours on the day after Christmas.
Unlike Walmart, Target was open later on Christmas Eve in hopes of winning some of the last minute shoppers who needed a late-night venue. Most Target locations were open until 10pm or 11pm while Walmart closed at 6pm. It’s a big power move, especially considering that mail won’t be delivered on Sunday (Christmas Eve) or Monday (Christmas Day) so if you were expecting a delivery that didn’t arrive, you are in luck because Target will be open later on Christmas Eve.
After Christmas Day, Walmart will reopen with normal business hours and some heavy markdowns on holiday items. The stores will be transformed before shoppers arrive so that all traces of the holidays are gone, compelling shoppers to start using those gift cards as quickly as possible.
With many Walmart locations open 24 hours a day, and some opening early for eager day after Christmas shoppers, be sure to call ahead to confirm when your local Walmart will reopen for business.
