Report: James Harrison visits Patriots on Tuesday

Looking for a new home after being released, James Harrison paid a visit to the Patriots on Tuesday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made some waves over the weekend when they announced the release of veteran linebacker James Harrison. Having not seen a lot of playing time this season for the Steelers, Harrison became expendable and his time in Pittsburgh has come to an end.

With the release, of course, everyone started to speculate where he could wind up next, and one of the popular options making the rounds was the New England Patriots. Needing some defensive help before the playoffs, it would make very much sense for Bill Belichick and company to want to add a veteran presence like Harrison.

Now, it looks as if the wheels are in motion for Harrison to find a new home with New England. ESPN’s Field Yates reported on Tuesday that Harrison was in town and visiting with the team as he searches for a new place to play the rest of the year.

Again, the fit with the Patriots makes sense. New England could use the help on the defensive side of the ball, and we’ve seen throughout the years that Belichick rarely shies away from the opportunity to bring in seasoned veterans to help out. Harrison could come in immediately and not be asked to do too much aside from providing more help for the Patriots as they make another push toward a Super Bowl appearance.

Whether or not Harrison ultimately ends up with the Patriots remains to be seen, but the first step toward making that a reality is taking place on Tuesday as the Steelers’ all-time sacks leader has some discussions with the organization.
