Tom Brady reacts to Jimmy Garoppolo’s hot start with the 49ers
Jimmy Garoppolo has been on fire for the 49ers since being traded from the Patriots, and his former mentor Tom Brady finally reacted to the hot start.
If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about turning a team that was dead in the water around in a hurry, it’s Tom Brady. With that said, it only makes sense for the most recent player to save a team to be his former protege, Jimmy Garoppolo.
Garoppolo was traded to the San Francisco 49ers from the New England Patriots back at the tail end of October, sending someone who appeared to be next in line to the throne in Foxborough all the way across the country to take over a winless 49ers team at the time. Since then, it’s been all Jimmy G in Santa Clara.
Garoppolo took over as the starter against the Chicago Bears in Week 13, and has gone 4-0 as a started in red and white since then. He’s undefeated as an NFL starter, including a few wins in his time in New England during Brady’s suspension last season, and has apparently caught the attention of his mentor.
Brady took to the radio waves on WEEI’s Kirk & Callahan on Tuesday to react to Garoppolo’s success, and had nothing but praise for his former backup.

“He’s done a great job,” Brady said. “You go in there and get the opportunity to play and win games, that is what we are all here for. It was good to see and good for them to beat Jacksonville, that really helped us. I am really happy for Jimmy and he’s worked really hard. It shows up when he goes out there and plays really well.”
Of course, someone who learned under the tutelage of Brady and Bill Belichick would dominate in his first few starts with a team, and we’ll see if the Jimmy G era continues when Garoppolo gets a full season with the team in 2018.
