Texas vs. Missouri(-2.5) at Houston, TX(3):
Texas 6-6, 5-4(t-4th Big 12(10):
Wins: vs. San Jose State(56-0), at Iowa State(17-7), vs. Kansas State(40-34), at Baylor(38-7), vs. Kansas(42-27), at West Virginia(28-14)
Losses: vs. Maryland(41-51), at (4)USC(24-27), vs. (12)Oklahoma(24-29), vs. (10)Oklahoma State(10-13), at (8)TCU(7-24), vs. Texas Tech(23-27)
Record vs. bowl teams: 2-5
After the Maryland game, Texas locked down opponents with their defense. Kansas State was the only other team that topped 28 points on them. This offense was mostly a mess. Chris Warren never really got going this year. Texas had serious issues moving the ball all year long. That wont really change by bowl season, though the extra month of practice can only help.
Missouri 7-5, 4-4(t-6th SEC):
Wins: vs. Missouri State(72-43), vs. Idaho(68-21), at Connecticut(52-12), vs. Florida(45-16), vs. Tennessee(50-17), at Vanderbilt(45-17), at Arkansas(48-45)
Losses: vs. South Carolina(13-31), vs.Purdue(3-35), vs. (15)Auburn(14-51), at Kentucky(34-40), at (4)Georgia(28-53)
Record vs. bowl teams: 0-4
Missouri lost five straight after winning the home opener, including being pounded into their own turf by Purdue. Strangely enough, Missouri didn’t beat a bowl eligible team. This offense looked great, but it was against mostly bad teams. Senior running back Ish Witter ran for 488 yards in the last three games alone! Missouri heads into this with a balanced offense, but with a defense that struggled against good teams.
Prediction:
Missouri is going to have serious problems with this Texas defense, but I’m not sure that Texas can move the ball well enough to win this game. However, the current balance of the Missouri offense might just be good enough to win this game. The over/under in this is up to 61.5. It shouldn’t be. I feel better about taking the under in this than betting the spread.
Pick: Missouri
