Arizona(-3.5) vs. Purdue at Santa Clara, CA(4):

Arizona 7-5, 5-4(6th Pac 12):

Wins: vs. Northern Arizona(62-24), at UTEP(63-16), at Colorado(45-42), vs. UCLA(47-30), at California(45-44), vs. (15)Washington State(58-37), vs. Oregon State(49-28)

Losses: vs. Houston(16-19), vs. (23)Utah(24-30), at (17)USC(35-49), at Oregon(28-48), at Arizona State(30-42)

Record vs. bowl teams: 2-5

Khalil Tate is one of the most fun players to watch. If you haven’t watched Arizona this year, do yourself a favor and tune in. He is one of the most electric players in the country. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, he can’t play defense. Arizona was 109th in the country in points allowed. As far as bowl matchups go, this is about as good as it gets for Arizona.

Purdue 6-6, 4-5(t-7th Big Ten(14):

Wins: vs. Ohio(44-21), at Missouri(35-3), vs. Minnesota(31-17), vs. Illinois(29-10), at Iowa(24-15), vs. Indiana(31-24)

Losses: vs. (16)Louisville(28-35), vs. (8)Michigan(10-28), at (7)Wisconsin(9-17), at Rutgers(12-14), vs. Nebraska(24-25), at (25)Northwestern(13-23)

Record vs. bowl teams: 3-4

The Boilermakers started strong, but struggled once they got into conference play. They did finish strong once Elijah Sindelar took over the quarterback job completely. The Boilermakers split time between Blough and Sindelar up until those final three games. Will that help Purdue get back on track?

Prediction:

Purdue’s defense needs to find a way to stop Khalil Tate. If they can, this is a game that they can win. However, Purdue struggled against prolific offenses that they faced. Arizona doesn’t have to face a good offense in a bowl game. The Boilermakers are better with Sindelar running the team, but this is still a team that struggled to move the ball for most of the conference season. This may even end up close, but I don’t really see how Purdue can stop Tate.

Pick: Arizona
