As Willie Taggart continues to put together his coaching staff at Florida State, Deion Sanders may be in the mix for a job.

After a disappointing season that landed them a now-flimsy looking bid in Wednesday’s Independence Bowl against Southern Miss, Florida State pretty much landed on its feet by hiring Willie Taggart as their new head coach to replace Jimbo Fisher .

Taggart is putting together his coaching staff, and a big name Florida State alum has surfaced as a candidate for a job.

According to Josh Newberg of 247 Sports, there’s mutual interest between Taggart and Deion Sanders to bring “Prime Time” aboard as the Seminoles’ defensive backs coach. It’s early in the process, but Newberg’s sources clearly want it out there that Sanders has an eye on going back to Tallahassee as a coach.

Sanders has no coaching experience at the college level. But he has coached at the high school level in Texas and has worked with some of the top recruits in the country at the Under Armor All-American Game.

Sanders, of course, started his legend as a cornerback and kick returner at Florida State in the late 1980’s, and he took his brash style right to the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers during his prime in the 1990’s. He was an eight-time Pro Bowler as one of the first “lock-down” corners in the modern sense, and he went into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He is currently working as an analyst for NFL Network.

Sanders would definitely bring name recognition to the recruiting trail, even with kids that were not alive when he was at his best in the NFL. His son Deion Jr. recently received a scholarship offer from Florida State, which may be a factor in wanting to move into college coaching at his alma mater.

Sanders can surely help Florida State’s defensive backs hone their coverage technique. But someone else will have to run tackling drills.
