Giants hiring Dave Gettleman as GM
The New York Giants have replaced Jerry Reese, hiring Dave Gettleman to be their next general manager.
On Thursday, the Giants announced that Dave Gettleman will be their next general manager, making the hire official. New York has been looking for and interviewing candidates throughout December after the firings of head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese. Reese won two Super Bowls with the club, beating the New England Patriots both times.
Gettleman has enjoyed success at the NFL level, doing so with the Carolina Panthers. Gettleman, 66, worked within the Giants organization from 1998-2012, going from a scout to the senior pro personnel analyst in that time. In 2013, Carolina hired Gettleman to run the show as its general manager, and the Panthers enjoyed tremendous success. The franchise went to its second Super Bowl in 2015 before falling to the Denver Broncos.

While with the Panthers, Gettleman showed a strong knack in the draft. The team was able to select Star Lotuleiei, Kawaan Short, Kelvin Benjamin, Kony Ealy, Trai Turner, Tre Boston, Shaq Thompson, Devin Funchess and others.

Considering New York’s 2-13 record, the veteran personnel man should have ample opportunity to build a good foundation for a Giants team only a year removed from an 11-5 mark. The Giants could be looking to draft the quarterback of the future, perhaps with Sam Darnold and at the top of the list.
New York is still looking for a new head coach to replace McAdoo with. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is serving in the interim.
