Every winter Olympic sport ranked by how frequently your uncle thinks ‘I could do that’

8. Freestyle skiing

If some of these other events weren’t a part of the 2018 Winter Olympics, freestyle skiing would definitely top this list. Of course, there are going to be an abundance of uncles claiming to be able to compete in freestyle skiing because they learned to ski on a family vacation to Colorado once. If competing in freestyle skiing was that easy, a lot more people would have medals lying around their house. The medals would virtually become useless. Thankfully, not everybody is an Olympic athlete.

Freestyle skiing, despite the somewhat misleading name, doesn’t consist of doing whatever tricks you’d like while skiing down a hill. If that were the case, a lot more people would try and do it. Freestyle skiing actually consists of a series of different obstacles including aerials, moguls, cross, half-pipe and slopestyle. In some of the sub-events (for lack of a better term), it’s almost as if skateboarding meets skiing. Competitors perform a series of different flips, tricks and routines.

Over the course of two weeks in the 2018 Winter Olympics, 10 different freestyle skiing events will take place. If your uncle ever says ‘I could do that’ (and there’s a good chance he will), remind him how difficult freestyle skiing is and that it doesn’t just involve skiing down a hill. If any old uncle could be handed a pair of skis and perform this well, the world would be in awe. I hate to break it to you, but uncle is all talk on this one, folks.
