Rookie Patrick Mahomes II will make his first NFL start this Sunday, as the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Mile High to take on the Denver Broncos.

The Kansas City Chiefs have already locked up the No. 4 seed in the AFC Playoffs, and because of that, they will be making a change at quarterback this week. Rookie first-round selection Patrick Mahomes II will get the start against the Denver Broncos, who might be going with Paxton Lynch at quarterback against the Chiefs. This game had high expectations when the season began, but Denver has been terrible, and the Chiefs have already accomplished what they needed to heading into Week 17.

The Chiefs were one of the hottest teams in football to start the season, as they were the only remaining undefeated team at 5-0. While the team struggled during the middle part of the season,  they have righted the ship as of late, and are playing good football heading into the playoffs. Kansas City has won two consecutive AFC West championships, and their new goal is to actually win a playoff game.

Kickoff begins at 4:25pm ET, and it should be interesting to say the least. Lynch has struggled to stay healthy since the Broncos made him a first round selection in 2016, and would like nothing more than to shed the bust label placed on him. Mahomes is getting his first real taste of playing quarterback in the NFL, though he will have to do battle against the Broncos “No Fly Zone” secondary.

The Broncos may actually be able to pull this one off, but it will have to take a solid effort on both sides of the ball. While the Chiefs will likely rest most of their starters throughout, they still have more talent than Denver, so it is not impossible to think Mahomes wins his first start at quarterback. He plays with incredible passion, so expect him to make some big plays in this one.
