The New York Giants are reportedly looking at Jim Schwartz to replace Ben McAdoo as their next head coach.

After firing Ben McAdoo a month ago, the New York Giants continued to clean house by removing general manager Jerry Reese from his longtime post. Earlier this week, the Giants replaced Reese with Dave Gettleman, and now reportedly have their sights sets on their next head coach.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, current Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is the favorite to land in New York. Schwartz, 51, has previous head coaching experience, working as the top man for five years with the Detroit Lions.

Gettleman and Schwartz have never worked in the same building, which makes such a quick decision a bit surprising. Schwartz has done a terrific job in Philadelphia, taking a previous moribund defense and turning it into the strength of a 13-2 team. The Eagles are one of the more aggressive 4-3 teams in the league with the likes of Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, Chris Long, Mychal Kendricks, Jordan Hicks and others creating a dominant front seven.

However, it should be pointed out that Schwartz was only 29-51 with the Lions from 2009-13. Detroit reached the playoffs once as a wild card team in 2011 and was bounced by the New Orleans Saints. In four of hive five seasons at the helm, Schwartz failed to produce a winning campaign despite having Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson as pillars of the offense.

Schwartz has long been rumored for a second job and perhaps he deserves one, but his previous record will loom large in Gotham until he starts stringing wins together.
