New Year’s Day may be the laziest day of the year. Luckily, your favorite food delivery apps are on hand to meet your culinary needs.

Most people start the New Year in bed all day, or on the couch. This is, typically, due to hangovers for the previous night’s festivities. Hungover people need sustenance and often lack the energy or power to prepare food themselves. Hungover people need food delivery. That’s where GrubHub — and Seamless, and Postmates, and UberEATS — come in.

Of course, it should be said many, non-hungover people benefit from the luxury of food delivery on New Year’s Day. Perhaps you just returned from vacation and have no groceries. Perhaps you were lost in the haze of the six days between Christmas and New Year’s Day and have no groceries. Perhaps you are perennially bad at stocking your kitchen and have no groceries.

Still, the GrubHub data suggests that hungover folk, powering through the pain post-New Year’s Eve parties, are the number one delivery food orderers. In 2015, GrubHub reported that deep dish and breakfast burrito orders jumped 620 and 221 percent respectively in Chicago while across the country, hash brown, egg benedict and Belgian waffle orders rose 290, 270 and 251 percent. (Of course, right after New Year’s Day, GrubHub reports a spike in healthy eating orders. Shout out to those New Year’s resolutions.)

As always, the true answer for whether GrubHub, Seamless or Postmates delivers on New Year’s Day depends on where you wish to order from. The delivery drivers will be out and about, like the angels they are, but your ability to receive that life-giving, corpse-reviving breakfast burrito from your favorite spot depends on whether said favorite spot is open. Fingers crossed for all y’all struggling through the first of the year that it is.
