Lucifer returns after the fall break for a winter special that’s a blast from the past-literally. Here’s your complete recap of “City of Angels?”
If you’ve ever wondered how Lucifer made it to earth, let’s just say this wasn’t his first rodeo. He shows up on the streets of LA in 2011 in a white zoot suit and gets lots of compliments on the old fashion from the ladies. The last time he was on earth the suit was in style. When his wings pop up it’s clear that this isn’t your ordinary human.
Very quickly we see Lucifer at a party with quite a few lovely men and women. Everything stops and Amenadiel shows up to spoil his brother’s fun. “As always” he’s there to take Lucifer back to hell. Lucifer reminds his brother that he allows Amenadiel to take him back. Amenadiel tells Lucifer he can either go with him or Father will have to come. Lucifer asks for ten minutes to say goodbye.
Outside, Amenadiel is complimented on his “dress” by a jogger. The jogger runs past and then the sound of gunshots echoes throughout. A masked man runs by and sees Amenadiel and shoots him, stealing his necklace. After a few moments, Amenadiel takes several breaths and realizes his necklace is gone.
Lucifer is still in bed when Amenadiel comes in and starts undressing. Lucifer’s interest is piqued as he finds holes in Amenadiel’s robe. Amenadiel asks Lucifer to stay there while he checks on something.
Amenadiel goes to the police station and meets with Officer Decker, who takes his report on the stolen necklace. He offers her a drawing of the man who assaulted him and she says it looks like a Jack o’lantern. She thinks Amenadiel is making this up. She turns away from him when she gets a call from Dan, who can’t make their date night because he’s working a case. Chloe says they can do a Taco Tuesday with Trixie, then she asks about the case and realizes that the body is right where Amenadiel was mugged. He’s already gone when she turns back around.
Amenadiel has no choice but to tell Lucifer what happened, and he asks for Lucifer’s help. Lucifer is in bed with a bunch of sleeping people, but his brother asking for help is too much for him to resist. The condition, though, is that Amenadiel has to play by Lucifer’s rules.
Chloe goes to the place where Amenadiel was mugged and finds a possible piece of evidence with blood on it. She takes it to the crime scene and calls for Dan, who kisses her even though they’re working. She shows him the key fob and thinks the incidents might be related. She wants to be a detective so she asks Dan to allow her to investigate.
Lucifer takes Amenadiel to a private club. Lucifer immediately spies a piano and says he misses good music because they have used Justin Bieber music to torture people in hell. He tells Amenadiel to get drinks while he goes to play the piano, and Amenadiel realizes he’s stalling his return to Hell. While he plays, Amenadiel spots a news report about the death of the jogger, Aiden Scott. Amenadiel thinks there’s a link between Aiden’s death, and upon studying the photo Lucifer realizes he might have a lead. He asks for more time from his return to Hell and Amenadiel agrees. First, though, they will need a car. He settles on a Corvette, and off they go.
When they arrive, Amenadiel realizes they’re on the set of a porn movie. Lucifer tells him that he recognized the woman in Aiden’s photo by her cleavage. She’s a porn star, Misty Canyons. He suggests they get information on her, so he goes in search of her while Amenadiel gets roped into the movie.
Lucifer tells Misty that he’s a huge fan and thinks her family should be proud. Her dream was to sing but this makes more money than being a waitress. She admits she loves sex, and Lucifer says she’s a rebel. That’s why she’s in LA.
Amenadiel is fitted for his role, a window washer, and on set Misty gives him lines but Amenadiel is all business. She wants to see the family jewels, but he reveals that Aiden is dead and Misty falls apart. She tells Amenadiel, through tears, that Aiden was respected and even though he lost a lot he still worked hard. Someone asked him to throw a fight and get paid for it.
Chloe is already at the gym where Aiden worked out. His trainer says Aiden was a good guy and he says Aiden always ran the same route. He also tells Chloe that he got into a fight with a promoter who never paid his fighters.
At the ring, Lucifer and Amenadiel survey Rico’s place. Lucifer is momentarily distracted when Chloe comes up beside him. She walks away when Amenadiel asks about the plan. Lucifer goes to get a drink. Chloe goes after Rico while Lucifer and Amenadiel go to talk to the promoter. He thinks Lucifer wants his fighter, Amenadiel, to fight. Amenadiel agrees he’s the best fighter in the family, and he knocks out the heavyweight champ with one punch. This catches the promoter’s attention.
Lucifer takes Amenadiel to a gym to train, hoping to lure the killer. Lucifer reminds him that he has to fight like a human, which doesn’t include knocking the punching bag across the room. The promoter shows up and wonders if Lucifer is willing to have Amenadiel take a loss to get paid. Lucifer punches him when he learns he was the one who went after Aiden.
Chloe tells Dan that her guy might have been part of a fight-fixing scheme. She wants to go after the lawyers but Dan tells her she needs to be patient.
Lucifer turns on “Hot Tub Time Machine” and gets ready for some alone time when Amenadiel comes in and says he can’t get any information from their suspect and he needs Lucifer to torture him. Lucifer doesn’t do the heavy lifting, of course, and he says he returned to Hell briefly to fetch Mazikeen. Maze walks in, wearing a suit of leather armor.
Tito the promoter sees Maze and she tells him how she’s going to torture him. She gets overwhelmed by being on Earth and chooses a different method. When she returns she tells Lucifer he talked because she had sex with him. He revealed that someone placed a big anonymous bet on Aiden and Tito has no idea who it was. Lucifer proposes that they try to fix the next fight to see if the killer shows up.
Chloe shows up at Charlotte Richards’ office and tells her that she’s there to help Tito. Charlotte reminds her about the concept of leverage, and she points out that Chloe doesn’t have anything on her client. After Chloe points out that she knows exactly what Charlotte is up to, she invites Chloe to sit down so they can talk.
Lucifer reassured Amenadiel before his loss (it won’t count, of course) and Amenadiel thanks his brother for his help. But when he calls Lucifer evil, Lucifer is taken aback and then decides to go in and fight his brother. Lucifer’s eyes glow as he faces off against Amenadiel. As they circle each other Amenadiel insists this doesn’t count, but after trading one insult too many, Amenadiel knocks to the ground. They continue fighting but then Amenadiel comes to his senses and refuses to fight him. He taps out and Lucifer is declared the winner even though he didn’t really win.
Dan and Chloe wait for the drop-off and Dan doesn’t think they’re going to show up. He hopes that she didn’t blow the case, which would set her back. Just like that, he shows up.
Lucifer and Amenadiel are also watching.
The killer might be the owner of the gym. Chloe goes off in pursuit but Amenadiel and Lucifer whisk him away to question him. It turns out he never meant to hurt anyone but he killed Aiden for not following along with his plan. Lucifer flashes his Devil face, and they return him to the beach, where he confesses to Chloe and Dan.
Lucifer and Amenadiel are at the ring again but Lucifer says that he’s going to stay because there is work to be done. He doesn’t know why he’s trying to please their father when nothing ever comes of it. Their father abandoned him so he is doing the same. If you want to rebel, move to LA, he says. Lucifer calls in his favor with Amenadiel, asking to be left alone. Their father knows where to find him. He lays claim to the ring, noting that it needs a piano.

Later, Maze joins Lucifer on the beach and she hacks off his wings. She weeps as she cuts them off, but Lucifer just stares Heavenward.
