Former boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has invested in a Los Angeles area cannabis resort that has just broken ground.
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has a new career as a marijuana mogul.
He has reportedly just broken ground on a new marijuana resort facility in a small town about two hours north of Los Angeles.
TheBlast.com (h/t CBS News) says that Tyson along with partners broke ground on the facility on Dec. 20 in California City which is a remote town about 100 miles north of L.A., in the Mojave Desert.
One of Tyson’s partners, Robert Hickman, says that the facility will be a desert oasis built on the underdeveloped land.
California City Mayor Jennifer Wood approved of the build, as she says it will bring much-needed revenue, jobs, and income for the residents of the remote desert town os approximately 15,000.
According to The Sun, the 40-acre facility is unofficially called Tyson Ranch.
The State of California legalized the use of marijuana on Jan. 1, and it appears as though Tyson is looking to get ahead of what many hope will be a booming industry for the state.
The facility will feature how-to classes taught by Tyson and will devote 20 acres to growing cannabis that will deliver “high-quality strains of THC and CBD.”
In addition to the above, the resort will feature high-end camping and cabin facilities, an amphitheater, hydro-feed plant and an edible factory.
Tyson is one of the most well-known boxers of the modern era, having competed from 1985 to 2005. He made history when he became the youngest man to ever win the heavyweight title. He is also known for his questionable antics, including biting off the ear of Evander Holyfield and tattooing the entire side of his face.
Tyson lost his heavyweight title when he was defeated by Holyfield in 1996.
