NBA Award Watch: Brogdon, Chandler and Gordon grab accolades
Sixth Man of the Year
Earlier in the year, I had began to lean toward Dwyane Wade winning the Sixth Man of the Year award. His play off the bench was stellar and Cleveland was second in the NBA for bench scoring, averaging nearly 40 points per game.
In Houston, James Harden and Chris Paul have been garnering all the attention, but there’s a third player that’s been playing just as well. Averaging 19.4 points, 2.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game, Eric Gordon has been special for the Rockets.
He’s been their second-best player and a huge reason why they had a scorching start to the season. While Gordon isn’t a starter, he’s playing starting minutes, averaging close to 33 minutes per game.
While the Rockets are 1-4 in their last five games and it’s probably not the best time to be giving this award to Gordon, it’s been a long time coming. His style of play fits like a glove in Houston, shooting from deep and playing up and down the court.
So far through 33 games, Eric Gordon has pulled into the lead for Sixth Man of the Year.
