As the calendar turned to 2018, Swansea and Tottenham’s outlook for the season are completely different. The Swans are fighting for survival, as they have been in the relegation zone for the majority of the year. Tottenham are fighting for a spot in the top four and looking to make a run in Champions League. On Tuesday, Swansea host Tottenham at Liberty Stadium.

One of the reasons Swansea are at the bottom of the Premier League table is that they have scored the fewest goals this season. Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham leads the club in scoring through 20 games. If Swansea’s inability to score wasn’t a big enough issue, the Swans have been getting worse defensively. In the four games prior to their last game of 2017 against Watford, Swansea have allowed 12 goals in their previous four games. Lukasz Fabianski has played very well in goal for the Swans but will be extremely busy on Tuesday with the red-hot Harry Kane leading the Tottenham attack.

Ahead of the Premier League’s final games of 2017, Spurs were one point behind Liverpool for the final spot in the top four. After a rough November, Tottenham have rebounded to put themselves right in the middle of the race for the Champions League spots. Striker Harry Kane caught fire at the end of December, scoring hat-tricks in his last two games against Burnley and Southampton. However, Spurs are still looking for a reliable secondary option. Heung-Min Son, Christian Eriksen, and Dele Alli have all been hit or miss this season, scoring goals in bunches but going stretches without finding the back of the net.
