5 possible replacements for Jon Gruden on Monday Night Football
ESPN will be on the lookout for a new color commentator to replace Jon Gruden on Monday Night Football.
The Oakland Raiders have all but made it official that they’re hiring former coach Jon Gruden to take over his old job. It’s one of the most high-profile hires the team could have made as Gruden had been highly sought after for years. Gruden walks into a reasonably good spot, having a good young quarterback and wide receiver combo in Derek Carr and Amari Cooper. They’re both coming off sub-par seasons but Gruden could fix some of the issues the Raiders had this past year. Regardless of how the Raiders turn out, one thing we know is that ESPN will need to find a new color commentator for Monday Night Football.
Gruden had his share of critics while he was in the booth. He has a wealth of knowledge of the game but some felt he too often settled for cliches or hyperbole. This list will dive into some possible replacements for Gruden and while there are a couple that would be highly entertaining, they aren’t the most realistic options. It’s still a little early to know who ESPN is giving serious consideration to as Gruden is still officially working for them. Until there are more concrete reports, it’s fun to speculate on who would be a good fit.
