Cleveland Cavaliers guard Isaiah Thomas received a standing ovation from Boston Celtics fans during his return Wednesday night.

In a fitting tribute, the Boston Celtics crowd gave their former star guard, Isaiah Thomas, a standing ovation. Thomas, who did not play in the game, was shown on the Jumbotron while the game was in progress. Thomas previously stated he didn’t want any extra love, but the Celtics faithful granted it to him anyways.

It’s always great to see that a fanbase still shows their appreciation to a former player. We’ve seen all too well the damage being done when a player leaves or is unmercifully traded from a franchise. Paul George received boos during his first time back in Indiana. LeBron James wasn’t welcomed back to Cleveland with open arms. Of course, we can’t forget how Kevin Durant was treated going back to Oklahoma City.

But as we witnessed last night, the Celtics fanbase truly appreciated Thomas. Last season, Thomas averaged 28.9 points per game while shooting just over 46 percent from the floor and just under 38 percent on 3-pointers. He also finished fifth in the NBA MVP race. So it came as a shock to Thomas and the Celtics fanbase that he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving.

Thankfully, Thomas has gotten over that shock and says that everything is fine with Celtics GM, Danny Ainge.

"Ainge and Thomas crossed paths in the corridor near the Celtics’ locker room before Wednesday’s game. The two chatted briefly and embraced. Ainge then sat in his typical seat on the baseline near the visitor’s bench to watch the two Eastern Conference powers go at it.“Have I forgiven Danny?” Thomas said. “He texted me last night, so yeah, we’re good.”"

Hopefully, a fully-healthy Thomas can play when the Cavaliers return to Boston on Feb. 11.
