156. . G. Alabama. Collin Sexton. 9. player

Sexton is a gifted offensive player capable of taking over a game. He looks for his own shot first and foremost, but that has not been a problem for the Crimson Tide thus far, as they have started 9-4 with the chance to make noise in March for the first time in quite a while.

The freshman point guard drives relentlessly, and generally makes good things happen. He is shooting 39 percent from distance and getting to the line 9.1 times per game, a great profile for a modern scoring point guard. He is averaging only 3.3 assists per game, but shares the court with multiple ball-handlers most of the time under Avery Johnson and is asked to score more than distribute.

In the NBA, Sexton’s creativity under the rim will bode well as he runs more pick-and-roll, and he could eventually develop a consistent pull-up 3-pointer that would make him unstoppable.

Sexton plays defense like a NBA superstar, and I don’t mean that he is dominant. He lays back and surveys the offensive set from within Alabama’s usual 2-3 zone, directing traffic and saving himself for turnover opportunities. Despite having the speed to make those plays, it is not always the most effective plan for Alabama. Mostly, it seems like Sexton understands defense but roams from possession to possession.
