Before This Is Us returns from its midseason hiatus, it has a chance to pick up some silverware at the Golden Globes. How many nominations did it receive?
While the Golden Globes aren’t nearly as big as the Oscars, nor do they try to be, it’s still a significant event since it kicks off awards season. It’s also the only awards show where the attendants are allowed to get drunk, which usually results in some off-color shenanigans. Hopefully nobody at the 75th Golden Globes gets as drunk as Kevin from This Is Us, or else we’ll be in for a long night.
Speaking of This Is Us, that will be one of the more important shows to keep an eye on during the awards ceremony. Season 1 pulled at our collective heartstrings, and season 2 hasn’t dialed it back in the slightest — even though they keep fans tortured by not revealing how Jack died.
Since the Golden Globes are on NBC, one might suspect them of showing favoritism toward This Is Us by showering them with a bunch of nominations. However, they only have three, far from the most received by one series — that distinction belongs to Big Little Lies, which got six nominations. However, they have a nomination in all the major categories including Best Drama Series, Sterling K. Brown for Best Actor and Chrissy Metz for Best Supporting Actress.
This Is Us also received three Golden Globe nominations during its first season, although this is the first time Brown is up for an award — Metz and Mandy Moore were the ones nominated last year. But having already received an Emmy for Best Actor, Brown will look to add to his collection.

With such a large ensemble cast, it can be tough to discern which actors belong in what categories. Perhaps that’s why some of the other cast members got snubbed, but the Golden Globes don’t matter too much for this show. It’s only assessing the first half of season 2, and winning one doesn’t mean as much as winning an Emmy. But whether or not This Is Us wins anything at the Globes should be a good indicator of how it’ll perform at the Emmys once the season has wrapped up.
