Most expect the matchup between Georgia and Alabama for the College Football National Championship to be tight, but what do the betting odds say?

Coming into the season, it’s highly likely that you’d have heard SEC Country shout about who would make it to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Most likely, they’d have said that the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs were the two best teams in the country and would be there. Sure enough, those fans would’ve been right.

On Monday night, these two teams will do battle for a National Championship in Atlanta. Nick Saban and Kirby Smart have constructed what are undoubtedly two of the best top-to-bottom rosters in the sport. As you’d expect considering the two coaches history with one another — Smart a former Saban assistant — these teams mirror one another in many ways.

Both Georgia and Alabama are predicated on the same thing: Win with defense and running the football. The defenses are NFL-type fast and scary good. Meanwhile, they each have a crowded backfield filled with players that should be able to succeed against most any defensive unit. Thus, it should be a close game on Monday.

But what do the betting odds have to say about that? Let’s take a look at the betting odds on Monday morning for Georgia vs. Alabama in the National Championship Game (via Odds Shark):

Point Spread: Crimson Tide -3.5
Moneyline: Crimson Tide -172, Bulldogs +162
Over/Under: 45.5

It’s highly intriguing that Alabama would be favored by over a field goal in this game, which they are at most sportsbooks. Despite Georgia being the higher ranked team in the College Football Playoff, it’s all about respect for Bama in the National Championship Game. Even still, the odds only matter until the ball is kicked off. Then, it’s anything goes once more.
