After losing the starting job at Georgia, Jacob Eason is expected to transfer to Washington.

Jacob Eason started the 2017 season as Georgia’s starting quarterback, but a knee injury in the season opener opened the door for true freshman Jacob Fromm. An SEC title and a spot in the College Football Playoff later, Fromm looks entrenched as the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback for at least the next couple years. Incoming five-star recruit Justin Fields will add more competition to Georgia’s quarterback situation.

Eason was a top recruit in the 2016 class, regarded as the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the country by 247Sports. He started 12 games as a freshman last season and finished with 2,430 yards, 16 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.

Rather than staying around and competing for a starting job, transferring has become the thing to do for college quarterbacks. But Eason can’t be blamed after seeing Fromm’s success as a freshman, and he could certainly find a clear opportunity to start elsewhere.

According to Adam Jude of the Seattle Times, Eason is expected to transfer to the University of Washington. He is a native of Lake Stevens, Washington, and during his initial recruitment in 2014 Eason was present at Chris Petersen’s first spring practices as head coach.

For what it’s worth, and as expected, Eason said he has not made a final decision in his future.

Eason will have to sit out next season as a transfer to satisfy NCAA rules, but that would set up good timing for Peterson and the Huskies. Jake Browning, unless he surprisingly declares for the NFL draft in the next several days, will finish his career as a senior next season. Jude pointed out two incoming four-star quarterback recruits at Washington, Jacob Sirmon and Colson Yankoff, but Eason should at least get an opportunity to compete for the starting job in 2019.
