With the 2017 college football 2017 over, let’s look back and count down the 30 best games of the year, including the dramatic National Championship Game.
The 2017-18 college football season has officially concluded after the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship Game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs. However, that is just the end of what was a long year in the college football world, filled with a ton of excitement.
With all of the bowl season concluded as well, it’s time to look back at some of the best contests of the year. Even Week 1 of the season was filled with excitement, with a few overtime games and comeback wins. One of the matchups excluded from the list is the Tennessee Volunteers surprising win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Yet, that was not the only noteworthy opening week result, as the West Virginia Mountaineers loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies was significant too.
Most of the games on this list are featured from Power Five schools, or from some of the notable Group of Five programs. Having quality opponents facing off is always a big factor in the overall quality of the matchup itself.
A few of the surprise teams this year included the Georgia Bulldogs, UCF Golden Knights, Miami Hurricanes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Michigan State Spartans. Meanwhile, some of the more disappointing teams include the Volunteers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, and Michigan Wolverines.
The next eight months will be spent analyzing the recruiting trail, spring games, and the NFL Draft. For now, we’ll look back at what happened in 2017.
