14. Iowa State vs. Oklahoma

  • Date: Oct. 7
  • Outcome: Iowa State wins 38-31

Few saw the Iowa State football story coming this year, under head coach Matt Campbell, Starting with this victory over the Sooners, the Cyclones really kicked off a big run in 2017. Campbell led the Clones to eight wins, including two over the Sooners and the Frogs.

This was a truly impressive victory for the Clones, considering few teams never really get close to defeating OU at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Moreover, it was a freshman quarterback that helped Iowa State notch the upset win.

That freshman Iowa State quarterback, Kyle Kempt, threw for nearly 350 yards and three touchdowns. He actually outplayed Mayfield, who could not get a rhythm going and the frustration was easy to see on the face of OU head coach Lincoln Riley.

In one of the multiple appearances for the Sooners on this list, they did not come out on the correct side of the scoreboard here. Iowa State was in position for a Big 12 Championship Game appearance and even had a case for the Playoff after defeating OU and TCU.
