5. Ohio State vs. Penn State

  • Date: Oct. 28
  • Outcome: Ohio State wins 39-38

The Ohio State Buckeyes pretty much locked up the Big Ten East by defeating Penn State at their home stadium in late October. Barkley and McSorley both had a big game, but the Penn State defense could not hold up in the second half.

Ohio State senior quarterback J.T. Barrett had one of his best games and clutch moments as a Buckeye, rattling off a 19-3 run in the fourth quarter to squeak by with the one-point victory. Barrett threw for 328 yards and four touchdowns, without a single interception.

Meanwhile, McSorley only had two passing touchdowns and was overcome by Barrett and the spotlight. However, the best part of the effort from Ohio State was stifling Barkley, and pretty much ruining his Heisman campaign this year.

The stout Ohio State defensive line held Barkley to just 44 yards and 21 carries, and with just one rushing touchdown. However, Barkley did take the opening kickoff to the house, which did seem to give Penn State a considerable amount of momentum in the first half.
