4. South Florida vs. UCF

  • Date: Nov. 24
  • Outcome: UCF wins 49-42

South Florida’s second and final appearance on this list made for a great offensive dual between Milton and dual-threat quarterback Quinton Flowers. This was a matchup made of up a bunch of runs from each team.

USF owned the second and third quarters while UCF owned the first and fourth. The Bulls went on a 27-7 run in the second and third quarters combined. But, UCF came up with a big enough fourth quarter to come away seven points up from the Bulls.

Flowers’ stat line was one of the best that any quarterback would post in any single contest in 2017. He combined for more than 600 yards and five touchdowns, with only one interception. And, if anyone has the argument that USF and UCF just both have bad defenses, they should watch some other UCF games, and see how they did against Auburn in the Peach Bowl.

The significance of this game lied with how UCF played for the entire season. While USF entered 2017 as the favorite to represent the Group of Five in a New Year’s Six Bowl, there’s actually discussion as to whether UCF should have been in the Playoff. They do have a good argument.
