NFL Playoffs: Divisional round quarterback rankings
By Joe Romano
The final eight teams are set for the NFL playoffs. It is shaping up to be matchups of quarterbacks with playoff experience versus those who do not.
It is no surprise that the NFL is a game that centers on quarterback play. The top seed in each conference, the Patriots and Eagles, had some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. If it were not for Carson Wentz’s injury, the Eagles would likely be NFC favorites like the Patriots are in the AFC.
The Wild Card round showed us though, that bad quarterback play can be overcome with impressive defense. Blake Bortles “led” his team to a victory running for more yards than he passed for.
It also showed us that experience matters. The Atlanta Falcons were able to top the Los Angeles Rams in part because the stage seemed just a little to bright for the young up and coming Rams.
There are now eight teams left; Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tennessee Titans.
With some of the best quarterbacks of all time on the slate for this weekend’s games it will be interesting to try to rank each team’s signal caller. The following rankings will take into account past history, current play and overall success at the position.
The quarterbacks without playoff experience will be at a slight disadvantage but as Jared Goff, one of the most impressive quarterbacks this season showed, experience matters.
