Stefon Diggs brought the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship Game on the final play and it sent their fans into a collective frenzy.

The Minnesota Vikings’ win over the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Divisional Round was a game that won’t soon be forgotten. That’s especially true for fans of the winning team, who have had to endure many playoff heartbreaks in the past courtesy of Gary Anderson, Brett Favre and Blair Walsh among others. But Stefon Diggs’ last-second touchdown made him a folk hero in the Gopher State.

While outsiders may have felt that this Vikings team was good enough to compete for a Super Bowl, their fans still had to see it to believe it. They’ve been fed that lie before only to fall victim to those aforementioned heartbreaks. And despite his reliable stats all year long, many have had their doubts about Case Keenum.

So when Diggs caught the winning touchdown pass from Keenum, it sent Vikings fans into a state of rapture. (Warning: contains NSFW language)

Diggs’ touchdown was a heartwarming play for many, and it elicited a big reaction. But for Vikings’ fans, this was a long time coming, as this type of win might be just what they needed to exorcise their demons of playoffs past.

Even though it’s a road game, some will favor the Vikings to beat Nick Foles and the no. 1 seeded Philadelphia Eagles. But, as we saw from their win over the Atlanta Falcons, they prefer to be doubted and have a chip on their shoulder. The fact that the starting quarterbacks in that contest will be two Jeff Fisher castoffs in Keenum and Foles makes it that much more interesting.

For the Vikings and their fans, this will feel really good, but they still need to win two more games. But if they play their cards right, they’ll be able to play in front of their home fans again in three weeks’ time.
