Vikings fans are hoping their team finally makes it back to the Super Bowl, and the team is as fun to watch as it’s ever been.

If there’s one adjective to describe Minnesota sports, happy is not among the options. Neither is cheery, upbeat, or enjoyable. Fun is probably at the bottom of that list, yet this year’s Minnesota Vikings team is doing everything it can to change that.

Rather than be depressing and futile, like is usually the case, the Vikings are two wins away from the Super Bowl and restoring happiness to the land of 10,000 frozen lakes. Thawing the chilliness that fans have grown accustomed to has been — if not easy — effortless for Case Keenum and the Vikings.

Mike Zimmer embodies that grizzled exterior you’d expect to happen if a man is banished to a place where it’s regularly below zero in the winters, but his team is the opposite. An offense that doesn’t make any sense and shouldn’t work is one of the most exciting units in football, and the breezy and hilarious touchdown celebrations they bust out personifies that.

Look no further than the Vikings second touchdown of their NFC Divisional game against the Saints. Freeze tag has never taken on a truer meaning than when it happens in the heart of Minnesota.

Minnesota sports is usually never a happy occasion, so the fact that the Vikings can be this fun is a big-time development. Teams have always been good, but they’ve never been anything more than good enough to get to the playoffs.

The Vikings being two wins away from the Super Bowl isn’t that big of a deal for Minnesota fans. The fact that they’re perhaps the most fun the team has ever been is the real takeaway from this and should be infectious to all football fans looking for a rooting interest.
