Speed Skating: “Sk8r Boi” – Avril Lavigne

I figured we needed some more Canadian songs on this list. Figure skating to Avril Lavigne’s “Sk8r Boi” is just too easy. Yes, I get that it was about skateboarding originally, but that doesn’t really matter. Snowboarding is kind of the same thing, but “Sk8r Boi” totally belongs on the rink.

These Sk8r Bois often say “see you later, boi” as they skate around the track. Of course, they look more ridiculous in their onesies than when you were in your emo phase, spending too much of your time and your parents money at Hot Topic and Spencers Gifts at the local mall. These Sk8r Bois are just too flipping fast.

If medalling in speed skating isn’t good enough for her, then find somebody else who will truly appreciate this kind of Sk8r Boi. Even though Avril might be dead (are we sure that’s still her?), why do we have to go and make it so Complicated anyway. These people are skating and “Sk8r Boi” works!

Really the only thing that could make speed skating better is if they dressed like they spent their summer at the Warped Tour back in the aughts. Speed skating could use a little more angst, if we’re being totally honest. It’s a work in progress for sure, but “Sk8r Boi” is certainly a step in the right direction.
