NFL Rumors: Ben McAdoo a candidate for Browns offensive coordinator

The Cleveland Browns are going to get themselves an offensive coordinator. So why not interview former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo for the gig?
Hue Jackson is apparently done calling plays, or that is what we are led to believe after going 0-16 in 2017. The Cleveland Browns were terrible, but Jackson will be getting a third year as head coach in 2018. With just one win under his Browns belt, he may be looking for a reliable offensive coordinator to call the shots. So why not interview former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo?
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, McAdoo is interviewing for that position on the Browns staff on Tuesday. Before being the Giants head coach, he was previously an offensive coordinator for New York and a quarterbacks coach with the Green Bay Packers.

McAdoo may not have the personality to be an NFL head coach, but he does have a proven track record as an offensive mind. He led both Aaron Rodgers and Eli Manning to the NFC playoffs with his unique offensive philosophical approach.
It’s not just that the Browns need an offensive coordinator that makes McAdoo an interesting fit in Cleveland. Do keep in mind that new Browns general manager John Dorsey used to work with McAdoo in the Packers organization before he joined the Kansas City Chiefs several years ago. The connection is there.
McAdoo has shown that he can elevate the play of his quarterback with both Rodgers and Manning. Or at least, for some time. He would inherit a talented, but unrefined second-year passer in DeShone Kizer as his signal caller should he get the Cleveland job. Kizer has the right build and arm talent to succeed in the AFC North climate. However, he has yet to win an NFL game as a starter.

Cleveland has the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The Browns could be in line to draft their next quarterback project should they move on from Kizer. People might laugh at McAdoo to the Browns, but it might be more successful than some up-tempo spread guy from the college game. It’ll be interesting to see if he does get this job in Cleveland.
