Where can you find the Black Lightning premiere online?

In a crowded lineup of comic book and comic book inspired shows in the CW Black Lightning has a chance to stand out, but will it make the most of it? Black Lightning by necessity has a slightly different tone than most of the other shows on the network, and the first chance to see how it manages that will be the premiere tonight.

Where most of the other DC comics shows on The CW feature adolescent or young adult characters, Black Lightning (played by Cress Williams) is a father himself. In some ways he should be more similar to (for example) Joe West on The Flash rather than the Flash character. Except for the super powers part, of course. It is not entirely spelled out exactly how Jefferson’s power works, but they have something to do with using and manipulating electricity. Because he is older that many of the other featured superheroes, Jefferson presumably already knows what his powers are and how to use them.

Here’s how to watch the Black Lightning series premiere live, on TV or online:

What: Black Lightning season 1, episode 1: “The Resurrection”
When: Tuesday, Jan. 16, 9:00 p.m.
Where (TV): CW
Where (Streaming): The CW

Next: For all your streaming needs

Also, there are a few things about Black Lightning that make it more likely to deal with its real world parallels directly, where the other shows use some degree of allegory. It’s easy to see this in some of the footage that has been released in advance of the premiere. It may seem rather obvious, but Jefferson will be the first black superhero to serve as a real protagonist on his own show. The fact that that is a fact worth remarking on says something not completely positive about the state of the television industry, but Black Lightning will at least begin to correct that disparity.

THIS CLIP may simply show Jefferson Pierce’s first use of his power in who knows how long, but it bears a chilling familiarity for people who have been paying attention to the news for the past few years.
