It’s Barry Allen on defense in “The Trial of The Flash,” as he scrambles to avoid going to jail for a murder he didn’t commit.

Oh, the parallels The Flash is giving us as we return from the show’s winter hiatus. During season 1, it was Henry Allen, father of Barry Allen, who was in jail for a murder he didn’t commit. Now, Barry is trying to avoid the same fate in “The Trial of The Flash.”

Since this is superhero television we’re talking about, it’s a little more complicated than your normal procedural where the wrong guy is fingered for a crime (so was Henry’s situation, now that we think about it). See, the man Barry is accused of murdering, Clifford DeVoe, isn’t even dead.

With the help of his astounding mental powers and his loving wife, DeVoe managed to transfer his consciousness into the body of a meta with mental abilities of his own, leaving behind his dead husk of a body and framing Barry for its death. As he has been the whole season, The Thinker was several steps ahead of the Fastest Man Alive, who didn’t have any clue what was going down.

Fighting off his first instinct to run, Barry chose to let the legal system do its thing. That could prove to be a costly tactical error, what with guest star Mark Valley coming in to play a slick prosecutor. Barry has Cecile Horton on his side, and the preview for this week’s episode notes that Joe West and Iris West-Allen are ready to take action to help him avoid the slammer as well.

This is an episode you won’t want to miss, especially since it’s been a long Flash-less wait for “The Trial of The Flash.” Here’s how to watch online:
