15 foods best eaten out of very large, some might say super, bowls

A picture taken on February 10, 2015 in Paris shows a bowl of popcorn. To most people, it may be just a fun food to munch while watching a movie. But to a couple of French investigators, popcorn is a biomechanical enigma waiting to be explained. In an unusual study published on February 11, engineers Emmanuel Virot and Alexandre Ponomarenko carried out experiments into what makes popcorn, well, pop. Cameras recording at 2,900 frames per second helped show what happened when a kernel of corn strutted its stuff. AFP PHOTO / LOIC VENANCE (Photo credit should read LOIC VENANCE/AFP/Getty Images)

The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles won’t be the only ones preparing for the big game on February 4. You, too, should be planning your (snack) playbook for Super Bowl Sunday.

Super Bowl Sunday remains one of the biggest party days of the year. Sports fans and non-fans alike gather in bars, backyards, halls, living rooms, and wherever there’s a screen to watch the on-field action, the big-budget commercials, and the fanfare surrounding the biggest football game of the year.

And to eat.

Shoving our faces full of food is as much a part of the Super Bowl experience as the actual game, the ads, and betting on the over/under for the length of the Star Spangled Banner. Knowing how to properly stock snacks for hosting a party, and what to bring as a guest is as much of a key skill as reading a defense.

We’re here to help you with the finer details of stocking your Super Bowl party with the essentials. The main attractions are easy. Make sure your party has some pizza, barbecue, or burgers (or all three) and you’re set. Stock your bar with a variety of beverages, or better yet go the BYOB route and your party’s thirst will certainly be quenched.

However, a Super Bowl party spread is not made by main courses and beverages alone. The snacks at the ready throughout the game for stocking a quick plate, or grabbing a handful to help you through a particularly nervous moment of the game will take your party from good to great.

Preferably, these snacks will be placed in large (super) bowls at various places around the party for a maximum mingling-while-snacking experience. But we’re not here to tell you how to set up your food, we’re just here to give you a list of the 15 best foods to eat out of your largest bowls while watching football’s biggest bowl.
