The Miami Dolphins are trying to make Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry take a hometown discount in his free agency and that’s not sitting well with him.

Wide receiver Jarvis Landry has been a very productive player in his four professional seasons with the Miami Dolphins out of LSU. He is a three-time Pro Bowler and led the NFL in receptions this past season. Yet, he and his camp are not thrilled with how the contract negotiation talks are going heading into his impending free agency.

Landry would prefer to stay with the Dolphins, but understands that the NFL is a business. In four years with Miami, Landry has 400 career catches for 4,038 yards and 22 touchdown grabs. Though Miami has only made the playoffs once since 2008, Landry has been a model of consistency at receiver the last Olympiad for the Dolphins.

However, Miami does have two other strong receivers in DeVante Parker, who is still on his rookie contract, and Kenny Stills, who was paid handsomely this past offseason. In short, Miami would love to keep Landry, but isn’t looking to pay a premium for his services.

For that reason, we might have seen the last of Landry catching passes down in South Beach. He might have to take his talents elsewhere. Landry has proven to be a physical possession receiver in his four years out of LSU, but may never be a top-10 receiver in the game. That’s not a bad thing, but that will likely prevent him from getting top-10 money with the Dolphins.

There are a few teams that could look to sign him this offseason away from Miami. Two that come to mind would be the Oakland Raiders and the Houston Texans. If he is willing to be 1a to Amari Cooper in Oakland or DeAndre Hopkins in Houston, Landry might be able to win a Super Bowl with either AFC franchise. Miami would love to keep him, but the Dolphins look to be strapped for cash. Landry’s free agency could be an interesting one to say the least.
