Overwatch League, Week 2: Seoul Dynasty take down Florida Mayhem, look like team to beat
The Seoul Dynasty is currently the team to beat in the Overwatch League.
To the surprise of no one, Seoul entered the second week undefeated. That doesn’t mean they went unchallenged, however. In their season opener, Seoul and Dallas delivered a skirmish on Temple of Anubis that is continually referenced as the best match of the Overwatch League so far. The Los Angeles Gladiators also put up a staunch fight against the Dynasty.
The Florida Mayhem has gotten off to a less impressive start, dropping both of their first two matches, one against Boston and one against London. Going into this matchup, all signs pointed to another Florida loss, with Seoul going so far as changing out some of the people who played last week’s matches with others on their roster.
Map One: El Dorado
Florida started the series out on attack. Seoul allowed for them to gain the archway before making a real defensive stand, but Florida’s TviQ on Widowmaker was there to ensure the stand didn’t last too long. The Mayhem was also able to force out both Dynasty support ultimates as Seoul attempted to hold the first checkpoint.
Moving through the next stretch of the map, however, FLETA started to take skulls as Widowmaker. TviQ attempted to make it a Widow duel, but FLETA’s position on the high ground gave him too big of an advantage. Additionally, Seoul’s KuKi on Winston did a great job of jumping on and eliminating TviQ on subsequent Florida pushes to negate his threat. The Mayhem’s attack faltered to a halt short of the second checkpoint.
On initial defense, Florida looked very strong at first, refusing to give any free ground to Seoul and refusing to give up the high ground. Seoul’s Munchkin finally opened things up with a Dragonblade. FLETA then did his part to make sure the road was clear by flanking Florida as Tracer, taking out both their tanks.
In the second part of the map, FLETA and TviQ resumed their Widowmaker duel, this time with TviQ occupying the high ground. And while Florida was able to hold their own for a moment, it was all over as soon as Munchkin unleashed his Dragonblade. As Florida’s stall tactics petered out, Seoul reached the goal and took map one.

Map Two: Horizon Lunar Colony
Opening on attack, the Mayhem stormed point A much more quickly than anyone would have expected. TviQ as Sombra opened up the engagement by taking out Munchkin, which allowed Florida’s tanks to move onto the point. The Mayhem’s attempts to take point B were met with much more resistance, however, even when they got first picks on key Dynasty players. FLETA on Junkrat roosted up on the beams high above the point, raining down grenades wantonly. He was even able to use a Riptire to explode Zuppeh on Mercy right out of the air. On land, ryujehong devastated Florida as an uncontested Zenyatta, helping his team successfully prevent Florida from taking point B.
Compared to Florida’s first attack, Seoul’s first attack was terrible. Again and again, Florida’s Logix was able to stall Seoul’s pushes by making picks as Widowmaker. With time ticking dangerously close to the end, Seoul made one final push onto Florida’s high ground, getting the kills necessary to push Florida back and cap the point. Unfortunately for Florida, they were unable to reassemble that iron defense on point B. Seoul charged right through and took care of business rather quickly.

Map Three: Oasis
Starting out in the Gardens, the Mayhem made strong first push, with TviQ getting a pick on FLETA’s Pharah. However, FLETA came right back to get two quick kills on Logix and Zuppeh, helping Seoul take control. Then it became a matter of securing the point, which FLETA did beautifully, terrorizing the ground with rockets while also taking TviQ out in a Pharah duel.
With Seoul up with 99 percent on the control meter, Florida was finally able to jump on the point and get picks to give them the man advantage. On Seoul’s next push, Manneten on D.Va immediately jumped on FLETA when he found FLETA within reach, pummeling Pharah out of the sky. However, a Dynasty Valkyrie helped Seoul regain a second wind and push Florida off to take the first point.
University started similarly to the Gardens, with Florida first taking the point and then conceding to Seoul at around 50 percent control. TviQ on Zarya combined with Manneten’s D.Va was able to pull Seoul in and pick them apart to regain control, but Seoul unhesitatingly swarmed back with a Reaper in tow to eat up Florida’s tank-heavy composition. One solid push was enough to throw Florida off the point once and for all, giving Seoul the victory.

Map Four: Eichenwalde
Even though Seoul secured the series win, Florida got the chance to spoil their overall map record on the fourth map. Florida attacked first, and saw TviQ and FLETA facing off yet again on Pharah. Thankfully for the Mayhem, TviQ did take out his Seoul counterpart which helped the team take the first objective.
As Florida moved into the second portion of the map, Seoul started their stalling tactics. Munchkin on Tracer flitted into the Florida backline, forcing out Valkyrie very early, while FLETA badgered the Mayhem from the front on Widowmaker. With just over a minute and 30 seconds, Florida entered the castle hallway. Fully aware of time slipping away, both Zuppeh and TviQ ended up using ultimates desperately, not even close to reaping their true benefits. Florida’s last push onto the payload was able to move it forward slightly due to Zuppeh’s Transcendence but Seoul made sure it would soon come to an end.
Seoul’s turn on attack did not start smoothly. First was a failed engagement that ended with XepheR getting killed late purposefully, staggering Seoul’s spawns. Then it was Logix on McCree, stunning and killing Munchkin’s Tracer with a follow up headshot on FLETA. With 30 seconds remaining, the Dynasty finally mounted an effective push, starting with ryujehong on Ana killing off Logix and ending with a cap of the first objective.
Next: Overwatch League, Week 2 recap: Shock vs. Fusion
With only around two minutes on the clock, Seoul started to move the payload, able to win a few fights to keep it moving. In overtime, Seoul gained the second checkpoint and with the payload bearing down toward the golden goal line, Florida mounted one final defense behind a Reinhardt. Unfortunately, in one split second when Reinhardt’s shield went down, the Dynasty was able to get a pick on Logix. That poor start caused the Mayhem to quickly unravel and the Dynasty to slide to a Four-Overwatch series win.
