Watch Errol Spence Jr. vs. Lamont Peterson online
By Nick Tylwalk
Find out how to watch the first big boxing match of the year as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world takes on a crafty veteran and former world champ.
Errol Spence Jr. should just be coming into his prime at age 27, but to hear him tell is, the IBF welterweight champion is having a hard time getting some of the best boxers in or around his weight class to fight him. That gave Lamont Peterson an opportunity he was happy to accept.
Peterson isn’t quite at the crossroads fight stage of his career, but there is some element of the old guard versus the still rising star as he prepares to try to upset Spence tonight on Showtime. Still, it’s an interesting matchup for more than just that reason.
Spence (22-0, 19 KOs) is right on the verge of becoming the kind of boxer who might become a household name with casual fans. The former U.S. amateur champion and Olympian has rarely been tested since turning pro in 2012, but only his most recent fight, when he stopped Kell Brook in 11 rounds to earn the belt he’ll defend tonight, could be considered a victory over a truly world class opponent.

He’ll get another in Peterson (35-3-1, 17 KOs), who has already won and lost world titles one weight class down. His resume includes a bunch more top names than Spence’s, and even his three losses carry no shame as they came to Timothy Bradley, Lucas Matthysse and Danny Garcia. He’s only recently started campaigning at welterweight, but with a few fights under his belt in the division, weight shouldn’t be a significant factor.
Style-wise, even the combatants themselves aren’t exactly sure if this will be a chess match or a slugfest, with Spence suggesting it might start out as the former before transitioning to the latter. It should be intriguing either way, so here’s how to watch live to see it go down:
