The Milwaukee Bucks have reportedly fired head coach Jason Kidd amid two-game losing skid.

The Milwaukee Bucks have parted ways with head coach Jason Kidd according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Following a hot start to the year, Milwaukee has dropped off and has become one of the NBA’s most mediocre squads. Kidd began the season already on the hot seat, with the recent decline in the team’s form proving to be the final straw. In addition to not getting results, Kidd didn’t have the best relationship with the front office. Specifically, Woj reported league sources citing “dropping to the 8th seed in the East, frayed relationships in organization and general non-alignment.”

Kidd spent three-and-a-half seasons in Milwaukee. During his tenure with the Bucks, he posted a 139-152 record. Even though the Bucks began the year with a bang under Giannis Antetokounmpo, they’ve been incredibly mediocre as of late. Milwaukee now holds the No. 8 seed with a 23-22 record. They sit one game up on the Pistons, teetering on the brink of a playoff appearance. The Bucks have lost their last two games and are 4-6 in their last 10.

Kidd’s failure to establish an identity and show improvement led to his firing. Since going 41-41 in his first season with the team, they’ve finished no better than 42-40. Although Kidd was loved by his players — most notably Antetokounmpo — the front office must have believed the time was right.

Bucks assistant Joe Prunty is set to take over as the interim head coach of the team beginning on Monday night against Phoenix. Heading into the offseason, the Bucks will likely have a lot of suitors for the head coaching job. The young, explosive roster is one of the most talented, youthful teams in the NBA with a lot of potential. In terms of Kidd, there’s no telling where he coaches next, but he’ll likely end up somewhere because of his brilliant basketball mind. After all, he is only 44 years old.
